Course Overview

``The quarterly summaries are going to be late again``

``a few employees seem to be coming in to work later and later``

``he didn`t achieve his objectives this month and also missed them last month, but I`m sure next month he`ll deliver. He has in the past.``

Addressing performance or behaviour issues is one of most challenging tasks a manager faces and many practice avoidance instead of dealing with the issues. This workshop focuses on identifying and addressing performance or behaviour issues in a timely manner. Participants are introduced to a communication model to help structure their conversation and anticipate some typical responses. Working in collaboration with the employee, the manager gets agreement to change activities and behaviour as appropriate. A follow up and review process is introduced to review and support the change or introduce further actions if required.
The workshop includes the following topics;

  1. What makes some conversations difficult
  2. Conflict and conflict avoidance
  3. Our role as leader
  4. The focus on behaviour
  5.  Identifying what we`d like them to be doing
  6. Planning the communication
  7. Collaborating to find a solution
  8. Getting agreement
  9. What if they won`t participate
  10. Review and follow up
  11. The importance of support
  12. Setting expectations
