Overview
For the new supervisor or the manager who wants to sharpen their management skills, this intense one day workshop provides the practical skills every leader needs when assigning and ensuring that work gets done.
Often managers get caught in a comfort zone, providing direction in the same degree of detail, regardless of the complexity of the task. As team members change and tasks to be completed become more complex, the reliance on “one style” limits their ability to get work completed.
Effective managers regularly demonstrate the ability to adapt their management style to the ability and willingness of team members to complete an assigned task. Providing direction when the task is new to the team member and delegating when the team member has demonstrated their ability to complete the task are examples of this adaptability. Team members have reported that an added benefit of this adaptive management style is more clarity, when appropriate as well as increased satisfaction with the way in which work is assigned and completed.
The workshop includes instruction on the importance of adopting a “task” focus, how to assess whether the team member is able and willing to complete the task and how to adapt your management style accordingly.
Topics included in the workshop:
-Defining the Role of the Supervisor/Manager
-Transitioning from team member to Supervisor/Manager
-What are we asking people to do? – Tasks
-Accessing ability and willingness to complete the task
-Adapting your management style based on task focus
-The challenges of the “micromanager”
-Delegation. Can we delegate and still be successful?
